4th of July Cake in a Jar

Just an experiment.  It was pretty fun.

Start with cake mix.  Make according to directions.

Split batter into 3 bowls.  Add blue and red food coloring to two of them and leave one alone.

Make sure to mix well.

Now fill mason jars.  Fill red, then white then blue.

Place in a dish that can catch any batter that might overflow.

When done, place in the freezer then top with whipping cream, blueberries and strawberries.

  1. Love this idea -- I was actually looking for a different recipe for someone who baked a cake in a mason jar and then shipped in to Iraq but I still love this patriotic recipe. Keep writing!

  2. Ok...quick question. I assume you bake this in the jar. How long and what temp?

  3. Wendy, great question! I baked it at 325 for about 25 minutes. But you'll want to check it before you remove it. You might need to keep it in for a little longer.
