PR&P: "Twix -or- Tee" Candy Challenge

I have really enjoyed sewing along with Project Run and Play.  This challenge was a challenge.  I didn't want to be too literal in my design and I knew that I wanted to sew for my son and not my daughter.  (She has enough frilly, cute things!!!  Right?)

So I tried to think boys and candy.

Our inspiration was Twix Candybars.  Mmmmm.......I wish I had one right now!  So delish!  If you knew my little man you would know he LOVES chocolate.

So instead of making him look like a giant chocolate bar, I took on the colors and this is what we got!

I think it turned out pretty cute!  We have the chocolate on the outside and the yummy caramel goodness on the inside.

He seems to like it.  But you never know with a 3 year old.

But my favorite part, is the colors!  Great fall colors but so perfect for a little boy.

And he doesn't look like a chocolate bar.

We also changed up the jacket to add a zipper in the hood, which he seems to enjoy.  Check that tutorial out HERE.

To make the shirt, I just did a few alterations to color block it.

I sliced my bodice piece where the sleeve and bodice meet.

Then added my seam allowance back in.

Cut my pattern pieces.

Then sewed them together and finished the t-shirt as I would normally sew it up.

I also made the sleeves more of a 3/4 sleeve for those brisk fall mornings.

So what do you think?  Success?  Our does he look like a chocolate bar?

  2. I love it! I totally get the inspiration but it's very wearable. And, I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one who uses brown grocery sacks for pattern work :) I seem to have an endless supply!
