PR&P: Caribbean Escapade, A Spring Break Challenge

Seaside Summer Top & Dress by GYCT

Now let me preface this entire post.  We have never been to the Caribbean, unless you count our honeymoon when we stayed in Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, but I don't think we count that.  However, right now, the warm weather, sandy beaches, and water activities sound perfect compared to our cold, windy March weather.

So let's us our imaginations!!!  This is our Caribbean Escapade.

For this challenge, I knew that I wanted to make my little ones some nice summer weather outfits.  Something that they could wear all spring and summer long.  I wanted it to be colorful!  I mean, the Caribbean has such vibrant and warm colors.  So when I found these fabrics, I knew I was on the right track.

I didn't want them to match, but more coordinate.  So the Little Man has a nice linen top with the lime green and yellow shorts.  Baby girl has a bit of a rainbow of warm colors.  She is also a red head so I wanted colors that would look good on her.  The pop of yellow was perfect!

For the pattern, I used my Seaside Summer Dress pattern.  I decided to make Baby Girl the flutter sleeve for those warm days on the beach (or dreams of the beach).  I love the pop of the yellow on the sash and sleeves.

(Also, ignore the fact that neither of my children are in sandals.  The dream would include sandals, but the weather was not quite "sandal appropriate".  I didn't want every person we walked by to think I was a terrible mother because my children were in shorts and short sleeves AND sandals.  I was just moderately a bad mother.)

See, such a sunshine day in the Caribbean.

The back of the dress has a nice cinched waistband.  Pulls the dress in just a bit and gives it a unique look.

Checking out all the amazing sea life in the Caribbean.

The bow is the Perfect Hairbow from THIS post.  I love to have hair accessories on this little girl.

For Brother, we went with the Seaside Summer Top Pattern for his shirt.  I wanted a nice linen fabric for this so it could be worn with a some swim trunks.  For his shorts, I up-sized the Whale of a Tale Shorts that I made last year.

Love how the look came together.  And he was super excited about the fact that he had pockets.  He worked all day to put his tissue in his pocket.  So cute.

Such great Caribbean Escapades!  Thankfully, we had some nice weather for our little photo shoot.  Plus, I bribed them with being able to play on the playground for ever.  Needless to say, they both feel asleep on the way home.  Big afternoon!!!

  7. I love the fabric choices! Being a redhead myself it is always hard to find colors that are bright enough to compliment your skin and hair without washing you yet or clashing, yet not too dark. I love the patterns! Excellent job and the construction looks well done. :)

    1. Thanks RaeAnna! Our weather has been a bit weird this year. Lots of snow and then nothing and now lots of rain. Just happy we got a good day in at some point!!

  19. The two outfits are so cute! I love the way you used the same pattern (your pattern!) for both boy and girl. I always find it difficult to find things to sew for my boy and I just found one! I am a sucker for linen and the shirt's design is lovely.

    1. Thanks Sara! I feel the same way about boy patterns. They really are hard to find. One of the reasons we love this pattern.

  20. LOVE the bright, complimentary colors -- the way the green for the shorts is pulled from the pattern on the dress is a great touch. I'd love to see you join us this week at the Inspire Us Thursdays! link party.
