If you haven't been keeping track of Project Run and Play this season, you are SO missing out. I have really enjoyed all of the themes and the kids have gotten some great clothes out of it too!
What have you missed?
This weeks challenge was what you could call the unconventional challenge. The goal was to create your own fabric. I decided to do a bit of "painting".
I had this great pink bottom weight fabric. I found a butterfly picture and cut the image onto some freezer paper. Used some fabric paint as you can see below and painted each of the butterflies. I made the pattern a bit wavy like a butterfly might fly.
Once my fabric was done, it was time to sew.
I decided on a little layered look. Kind of like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. I started with the bolero. It is a very light weight lace knit that I found at Joann's. Next, the flutter sleeve t-shirt. Just like the wings of the butterfly. And finally, the bubble shorts keyhole shorts. This is where I used the butterfly fabric.
A nice close up shot of the butterfly fabric in the Love Me Knot Shorts (which just so happens to be my latest pattern that is in testing!! Should be out this week!! Check out our Etsy Store).
Here is the back view of the shorts and the bolero top. You can see the hood for those windy afternoons.
I just love these shorts. They are so cute! Plus, you can make them in all sorts of fabrics. Believe me this little girl has A LOT of them now.
I wanted to make sure that the bolero had some type of closure. So I attached some ribbon so it could tie closed. It also is in pink. Just got to keep with the theme. :)
We had a great time getting pictures. Lucky it was a nice day.
She loves going to the park!!
Overall, I love the look we came up with! It was a fun challenge, but also one that pushed me to be a little more creative. Which I always appreciate!
What do you think? What is your favorite part of the outfit?
