Spring Signature Style

Junebug and Leggings

It is finally SPRING!!  Or at least it has been for the last week.  So that has helped me be motivated to get some spring sewing in.  As I was thinking about what my signature style is, I kept going back to simplicity.  I personally am not huge on all the ruffles and frills that a lot of people are.  For special occasions, like Easter or Christmas, that may change.  But overall, I like classic pieces that can be used for many different occasions and pair with many different items and then maybe add a special touch.  Thus, this outfit was born.

I started with the Junebug Top from Craftiness is not Optional.  I wanted the tunic style to make it more of an everyday item and because the little one is constantly moving and the style is best for that.

Next, I decided to make some leggings.  I hand-dyed the leggings.  I usually buy several yards of white 4 way stretch knit and then dye them so I can get several leggings out of it for the entire season.  Check out the tutorial on how to make and dye your own leggings.  You can also grab the size 0-3 leggings pattern for FREE.

For the top, I used this adorable aqua polka dot fabric I found at JoAnn's.  Then grabbed these sweet heart buttons.  I think they are my favorite part of the top.

My other favorite feature of the top are the sleeves.  Cute little puff sleeves with the elastic around the hem.  They really make the top so feminine and sweet.

Along with hand dyed leggings they are ruched on the bottom for a fun change.  They are a bit longer then I might usually do, but this girl is growing so fast hopefully they will last us into the fall.  (Crossing my fingers)

She can really move these days!!  I can't believe how fast these little ones grow!!

I love the combination of the aqua and pink.  It is so girly without being over the top.  Such a fun project.  I have really enjoyed sewing along this season at Project Run and Play.  Make sure to check out my other projects.

  5. I love the Junebug pattern, and polka dots are my favorite! Great idea for dying your own fabric for leggings, that's very tempting...I'll have to give it some thought!

  7. Chelsea, your little one is a total lamb chop, and I love the outfit you made for her. Totally feminine but not gag-me-sweet. And hand-dyed leggings - nice touch!
