Okay, first I have to preface this entire post with the fact that I am only recently a Doctor Who fan. I finally took the plunge about 3 or 4 months ago. In that time, I feel in love the the 10th doctor, enjoyed the 11th doctor, and still haven't decided about doctor 13. But I really do love the show. So naturally, when Crafting Con had their January sew-a-long for Doctor Who, I had to join in the fun.
If you aren't familiar with Crafting Con, you might remember a few months back I was part of the November Hunger Games Challenge. I shared my project on Crafting Con and also a little Effie Skirt Tutorial on the blog. This was a fun challenge and I wanted to get involved in the other month themes with their sew-a-longs.
I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to create. I really love the "Pond Family". I wish the story between the Doctor and River Song had played out more and was a little less confusing to follow. Because it was an intriguing idea. And I totally loved that when she needed him all she had to do was leave her call sign "Hello Sweetie". So that was my starting point.
From there, I found this AMAZING galaxy knit fabric. I knew I had to use it. I could totally see the TARDIS zooming around looking for new worlds. So I made a cute little skirt much like you'd probably see Amelia Pond wearing around. Don't you think? I didn't have a particular pattern for this, I just made a yoga waistband and added a gathered skirt.
For the top, I used our Rival Raglan pattern in our Etsy shop. I didn't want the top to scream girl, so I went with blue sleeves instead of pink or purple. The sleeves are 3/4 length and I used my new embroidery machine to add the Hello Sweetie saying. And to "girl" it up I added the pink bow. I think this would make a really cute Valentine's Day outfit as well.
Getting pictures was harder than sewing up the outfit. As you can see, she is an adventurer. So really, she should be one of the Doctor's companions.
This really was a fun little project. I am so glad I decided to participate! I had a lot of fun with this project and trying to come up with a cute and functional outfit for my little girl. What do you think?
