Now, let's show you some fun Seaside Summer pattern flip ideas!!
First up, we have my blogger friend Amy from Friends Stitched Together. She is super talented! Make sure to go check out her blog!
This is technically a "summer" top, but we're buried under a couple inches of snow in Central Washington right now so I had to get a little creative! My three year old is a skinny little thing and always cold, so I decided to use some Ultra Cuddle fabric from JoAnn's. It works perfectly for this pattern! The first time John tried it on, he did a little happy dance and goes, "It's like wearing my blanket!"
This is actually the second shirt like this that I made him - he wore the first one non-stop for a week and it wasn't picture-ready any more...
On to the pattern itself: The only thing I changed was to add 1/2" to the sleeves since the fabric is so bulky. The length ended up just perfect! The pattern is literally four pieces (and two of those are for the facing) and it took me maybe 45 minutes to sew - it would have taken less, but I had to use extra pins for this fabric. The facing is a super easy way to finish the neckline and the slit gives it a casual caftan vibe. I think it would be cute to add a button at the top to close it for an entirely different look!
I love that the loose fit looks great on boys or girls. This version is comfortable enough for John to sleep in, but it also looks nice enough that he can wear it in public without it looking like I left him in his jammies ;) And apparently, this is the best you can hope for when you ask a three-year-old to lay down and pretend he's sleeping:
Next, check out Jessica's look over at The Berry Bunch. Her little man wanted a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle inspired top. Love how she used Voile fabric so soft and perfect for the weather.
She changed the top up a bit of color blocking by some cuffs and a fun band on the bottom. Make sure to go check out her blog for more.
Finally, I get to share with you my newest Seaside Top. Now I know the name says "summer" but really, this is the perfect top for all seasons. You get 3 sleeves and either the top or dress option. Right now, we are in winter. So the top I made for my little girl is long sleeve, however, it will work for spring and fall because it is a fairly lightweight fabric.
I decided to make the top, but I added the sash option from the dress. This made it into more of a tunic style. Which I tend to like since my baby girl wears a LOT of leggings this time of year. (Well, all the time really.)
I used a purple gingham fabric that I purchased and JoAnn's. It is lightweight but heavy enough to keep her little arms warm during the winter. This could also be used after swimming at the pool this summer. Light enough to keep her cool, but warm enough to warm her up after being in the cool pool.
After seeing all these adorable options, perhaps you'd like to take advantage of our Monthly Monday Madness deal! For today only, you can grab the Seaside Summer Top and Dress pattern for only $4! So go grab it quick!!
