Have you ever visited Sewing Mama RaeAnna?  Um....you should start immediately!  She is so talented and has great patterns, tutorials and just awesome ideas!  I'm so happy to have her guest posting today about her take on the Back 2 School Patterns Coin Purse and Pencil Pouch.

Hello GYCT readers!  I'm RaeAnna from Sewing Mama RaeAnna and I loved seeing the Back 2 School posts on Chelsea's pattern tour!  Here's a quick tutorial on how to add box corners to the bottom of your coin purse.  You could apply this technique to any bag/pouch/tote pattern!

First, I'll show you how to add the loop tab at the top:

1.  Take a strip of fabric 2"x5" and fold the ends into the middle. Press.

2.  Fold edges up together.  Press.

3.  Sew a straight stitch across the edge to close.

4.  Fold the strip into a loop and sandwich inbetween the layers of the coin purse.  You will want the unfinished edges to hang out the sides.

5.  Sew along the outer and lining enclosing the loop inside.  You'll turn it right side out in a later step!

Now, to make the box corners!
After you have finished sewing the lining to the lining and the outer to the outer, take each corner seam and open it up to a triangle like pictured below.

Sew about 3/4" up from the point.  Repeat on remaining 3 corners.

Trim off the point about 1/8" from the stitch.

Turn right side out following the remaining tutorial in the pattern pack!

Now you have a cute little handmade pouch for you kids to take their lunch money in!  Or, if your kids are like the kids I taught in elementary, they LOVE having their $0.50 for ice cream on Fridays!!!

Come check out my blog for more fun sewing projects throughout the school year!  I can't wait for my little man's first day of school!
