So for the past month or so, several pattern designers got together and organized a pattern swap. Basically, we got a pattern from another designer and we were to sew it up and review it. Today I am sharing this cute Summertime Dreams Dress from My Treasured Heirlooms.
The design of this dress is a simple A-line. Which is always a good choice. It allows for you to be creative in your fabric choices and adding embellishments. It can also be reversible, which is a great way to save some time but have 2 different looks. The instructions allow you to add a zipper on the side or keyhole in the back. There is also an 18" doll version in the pattern.
For my little girl, I made the size 18 month for the width but the length of the size 2. She is pretty narrow in the chest so I knew I didn't want the dress to be too wide. I put the Tinley Tee underneath, just to keep her warm since our spring has been very cold this year. (Did I mention the Tinley Tee happens to be on sale this week?)
The pattern calls for quite a bit of bias tape. I love the look of bias tape, but it can be tricky if you aren't familiar with how it works. I decided to do bias tape around the keyhole since I didn't hem my dress with it. But the pattern doesn't call for that.
The directions are digital diagrams. I personally love photo tutorials but the diagrams are clear. However, if you are okay with digital diagrams, you'll do just fine. The only issue I had was with the button loop. The instructions say how to sew the loop, but I could never find measurements or a pattern piece on how big to make it. Luckily, I could guess easily with no real issue.
Overall, this was a nice pattern. It is quick and perfect for adding some embroidery or embellishments. Just make sure you have enough bias tape or allow for time to make some yourself. So go take a moment and check out the Summertime Dreams Dress.
